Bastille Day in Brooklyn, NY 2008

July 13. The sunday before French's national day. After our big deception of fi:af on 60th. street in Manhattan. We stopped by the Smith Street in Brooklyn for some real french spirit. The Bastille Day's Petanque tournament, the biggest in US. Where french petanque teams from Marseille and Saint Tropez traveled all the way here every year to challenge the local petanque teams.
The atmosphere was obviously very frenchy. The french or the french descents in New York or from New Orleans gather up on this street since 2 years (The event was moved from MacDougal street in Manhattan). The Bar Tabac on 128 Smith took over of the organization, laid the sands and set 12 petanque tracks on 2 blocks of the street.
We had some Sangria and beer while watching some petanque matches on the street. And before the alcohol took over me. We've found a very cute gift store where these very cute animal face mugs staring at us in the window. The very nice store manager was just about to close the store, who led us to select the mug I want and it cost only 6 dollars. The mug from Decole exist in bear, panda and pig faces. Sweet! :)
