Un Homme Aux Soleils - The story behind

This water pencil drawing was made after a long thought from my trip to Auvers-Sur-Oise for homage Vincent Van Gogh's 100 years' deathin 1990.
Like I once wrote in a prose (UNITAS a literary monthly June-2004):

寂寞應該是自己選擇的吧。
還記得梵谷在給弟弟迪歐的信中寫到奧維的好：
“離巴黎不遠，但是又夠遠到是真的鄉下。“

Loneliness must be a free will.
Remembered Van Gogh mentioned in a letter to his brother Théo:
"Ici on est loin assez de Paris pour que ce soit la vraie campagne, ..."
("Here one is far enough from Paris for it to be real country, ...")

Wherever and whenever the loneliness could haunt one's heart, and feel helpless despite any possible cure.
Auvers-Sur-Oise is in my eyes, one of the most beautiful and peaceful places on earth. Van Gogh has had spent not more than 3 months at this little commune, surrounded by many friends and good weather. Which anyone among us would pleased and contented by it. But the loneliness was like an incurable cancer, and finally chewed his heart off.

That one could be loved and cared by many, but still blinded by it's self-despair.

The pretty little thing enlightening my winter

Cold and raining here, and all I have in my mind these days is to find a very frenchy large sweater dress for my closet collection before I heading back to NY.
Jet lag is extra difficult when the weather is bad. And that's exactly what I'm experiencing right now. After lazily chatting here and there online. I decided to take a small walk to gasp some air. Well. An excuse to browse some new collections in my area's fashion stores before they call off the week (most of the stores here are closed for sunday). I'm a fast walker but with my knee high boots and the wet marble street packed with fashionable people of the 2nd arrondissement. I had to slow down my pace and maintain my wave. 1, 2, 3... my usual stores browsed real fast and a new brand from Bretagne which replaced one of my favorite Jack Henry. Then couple more stores up and I decided to step in to "les petites" where always lots of items to browse and pick.
les petites' collection this winter do actually contented many thick sweaters in every corner of the store, but they're all short and bright. While I was browsing and browsing, I accidentally lay my eyes on a sales girl's sweater dress looks very close to what I craving for. And lucky me. They only got one black left.
Here I'm. Wearing my new sweater dress at home and turned of my heater. Another good excuse to worth the spent. : )

Good news for iPhone!!

Finally we can edit the Word, Excel and Power Point files on our almighty gadget - iPhone. One of the few things the iPhone users crave to have and maybe more Blackberry users will switch to iPhone is finally here. But before Apple can come out the copy and paste solution. I'm sure we're happy enough to hear that iPhone is moving one more step close to a mini computer.

中秋快樂！ Happy Moon Festival !!

It was about 15 days ago, we found a box of rabbit moon cakes from Taiwan's Ten Ren in Chinatown. And few days later. We found an ad on a free New York japanese guide shows a cake store also sell rabbit style moon cakes. Yesterday. After a week of wait. We decided to discover the Japanese mall in New Jersey and to buy a box of japanese version of rabbit moon cakes.
Here. A taiwanese green tea rabbit moon cake with Mochi heart in red and japanese green beans rabbit moon cake, side by side like a kid with mom. :)

IKEA 2009 Catalog is here!!

IKEA? My hubby's day job. The job everyone thought our apartment is a IKEA paradise, just released the new 2009 catalog to attract us all to visit the near by IKEA store asap.

As always. My hubby delivers the catalog into my hands directly from his office one week before the public distribution. And as usual. One of my favorite things to do when I read the IKEA catalog is to looking for the cat members inside of the catalog. But this year. I'm very disappointed. I've go through the entire catalog and find no cat at all but 2 fluffy dogs running on page 126 and page 246. I then right the way text to my man to demonstrate my anger. He replies: "This is very disturbing indeed. We should boycott until next year." :D

Hehe... I just got a feed back from chicken that I haven't renew my blog since a long time. And gosh! It is so true that I haven't renew my trade mark blog since last month's French Bastille day!!! O_O"
Aie! Aie! Aie! Sorry. Sorry. I guess I just became one of those lazy bloggers who lost the interest of blogging?
Or this blogging this is not that fashionable any more since we have all these economic and environment crises or our attention has been blowed away by the red hot Olympic games?

Yes. Yes. I can always pick whatever excuse to make me sounds busy and guiltless. And No. Actually ever since I've got back in New York. I've been taking time to get back to my life rhythm after crazily traveling around the past 6 months. And of course I've been working on my Chinese dishes book since a year, plus some little help from time to time to my hubby's indie musicians' touring management. Some friends was in town, and we're still working little by little on our apartment remodeling etc.

And beside all that. I just started an online T-shirt sell in Taiwan and also started another blog, an extension of my unpublished Chinese dishes book with lot more details about all the dishes that can't really fit in the pocket size version.

: ) Yes. Now I'm talking.

"MakeIt" The T-shirt store in Taiwan just launched and a friend of mine "TheCarol" (Taiwan's twitter queen) works for them. And since I've some spare drawings lying around in my hard disk. I decided to join the website and start my own store for a try. And when I have a little bit more time. I'll try to put them available for buyer outside of Taiwan on my cafepress store.



As for the extension of my Chinese dishes book "Eat Chinese Food" is posting one by one as blog for now. And once I've much more posts and readers, I'll update it into a website where you can check all the dishes by style, kind and taste before you heading to a Chinese restaurant.

Ólafur Eliasson's New York Waterfalls

I've been away from New York City for a while. And when after spending 10 days in the hot and humid Taipei, and exhausting round turn double stops long flights, just before I can notice I was sleeping in my favorite bed in Paris. My taxi is already downstairs hustles me to the airport.
And ever since I'm back in New York. I'm sleep walking with double jet-lag here. No matter how happy that I've finally ended my run away trip, and finally back to New York where my new life has never really gets it's chance to start. The one joyful thing waiting for me here in New York is the amazing and refreshing waterfalls created by Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Eliasson.

Danish Design - Verpan, Vipp

Remember those shell pendant lamps? Those sliding shape chairs?
Those so called fashionable people today love those futurist furniture, are in fact not at peak of fashion but at point of retro.

The famous Danish designer Verner Panton (1926-1998) was the ONE who created those provocative patterns and those never out date objects in our everyday life since 1955.

The extraordinary man we admire had changed and marked our life forever. But from a 70s generation point of view. I can't say I love all the influences from him, but I do love the world he imaged way ahead of everyone. As a child of that time. The colorful geometric patterns on almost every walls, on mother's skirts, on father's shirts are way tooooooooooo much for a pair of little eyes, which I believe that was the main reason of my astigmatic vision defect. : )

Anyhow. Since I was pretty much avoiding those designs the most of my existence, and by the retro minimalist fashion back to our live these years... I sort of picked up the concept a little bit here and there in the spaces I live. And. My resent ballade in Copenhagen the other day, make me inexplicably fall in love with those white Verpan ball pendant lamps.

Of course there is also the Vipp bins. It was in 1939. Holger Nielsen (1914-1992) created this robot look waste bin for his wife's hair salon. Then those all sizes, all colors, stainless steel solid, durable, isolate order waste bins are soon adopted by many dentists and doctors' clinics and by today's interior designers.

The prices for the real good design are never cheap to prossess. But how we explain our obsession of collectible furniture and fascination toward to a simple but maybe the generation transferable waste bin?
